RRB JE Official Notification

RRB released the JE Notification for 2026 on 13th August, numbered CEN 04/2026.

It's for Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant posts, and the online form opened a day later, on 14th August, at rrbcdg.gov.in.

4,029 posts, spread across Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Signal & Telecommunications, CMA and DMS.

Diploma or degree holders in a relevant engineering stream can apply — exactly which qualification counts for which post is laid out further down.

What This Notification Actually Covers

Worth pausing on this before diving into tables. The PDF itself carries the vacancy split, who's eligible, the fee structure, the timeline, how selection works, and the CBT 1/CBT 2 pattern.

Everything here traces back to that document and the corrigendum that followed it — nothing added, nothing assumed.

Branch-Wise Vacancy

Civil carries the biggest single share this year. Mechanical and Electrical follow.

Branch / Post Total UR SC ST OBC EWS
Civil Engineering 1,638 670 259 140 407 162
Mechanical Engineering 1,125 484 182 110 251 118
Electrical Engineering 600 280 79 50 131 60
Depot Material Superintendent 324 139 57 29 69 30

Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant 35 14 5 3 6 4
Total 4,029 1,714 632 366 920 397

Each branch then splits further by department — Civil alone covers JE/P. Way, JE/Works, JE/Bridge and Design postings separately, running across 35 distinct post codes in all.

That level of detail is easier to check directly in the official PDF than reproduce here.

The Corrigendum — What Actually Changed

RRB put out a corrigendum on 19th August. Two changes came out of it.

  • 35 CMA posts got added. Anyone with a B.Sc. in Physics and Chemistry, 45% marks or above, is now eligible to apply for Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant roles.
  • One JE/Electrical/TRS post was added too, nudging Electrical vacancies from 599 up to 600.

Add it up and the total moved from 3,993 to 4,029. Seven zones were touched by the revision — Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Guwahati, Patna, Prayagraj and Secunderabad.

Everywhere else, the numbers stayed exactly as first published.

Applying Online, Step by Step

Six stages, and they run in a fixed order — you can't jump ahead.

  1. Create an account. New applicants register with a mobile number and email, both OTP-verified, then authenticate through Aadhaar or DigiLocker. Already have an RRB login from an earlier CEN? Use that instead. One catch: the mobile number, email and RRB choice you enter here can't be edited later, so double-check before submitting.
  2. Fill the form. Pick your RRB, your zones, your eligible posts. Academic details should match your 10th/Matriculation certificate exactly — spelling mismatches cause more rejections than people expect. The exam is offered in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages, so choose your medium carefully at this stage.
  3. Take a live photograph. No uploading an old photo — it's captured live, through a webcam or phone camera. Straight posture, neutral expression, dark clothing, no cap or glasses.
  4. Upload documents. Signature as JPG (30-49 KB, black ink on white paper), plus an SC/ST certificate if you're claiming the free Sleeper Class pass (PDF, up to 400 KB).
  5. Pay the fee — net banking, card or UPI, whichever works.
  6. Review, then submit. Download the final form and payment receipt once it's done. You'll want both later, so don't skip this.

Documents to Keep Ready

  • Aadhaar card or other valid ID
  • 10th/Matriculation/SSLC certificate
  • Engineering degree or diploma certificate
  • Marksheets for the qualifying course
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS), where relevant
  • PwBD certificate, where relevant
  • Ex-Serviceman certificate, where relevant
  • NOC, where relevant
  • Scanned signature
  • Active mobile number and email
  • Bank details for the fee payment

Fee and Refund Rules

Category Fee Refund on Appearing in CBT 1
General / all other candidate ₹500 ₹400 refunded (minus bank charges)
SC/ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minorities, EBC ₹250 Full ₹250 refunded (minus bank charges

That refund doesn't happen just because you paid — it's released only after you actually show up for CBT 1.

Eligibility and Qualification, in Brief

This is a summary, not the full picture — the RRB JE Eligibility and RRB JE Educational Qualification pages go into the complete breakdown.

  • Age: 18 to 33 years, with the usual relaxations for SC/ST, OBC and PwBD candidates.
  • Civil posts: 3-year diploma or degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics posts: diploma or degree in the matching or an allied branch.
  • S&T/IT posts: diploma or degree in Electronics, IT, Communication or Computer Science.
  • DMS: diploma or degree in any engineering branch at all.
  • CMA: B.Sc. in Physics and Chemistry, 45% minimum.

Selection Process 2026

Stage Process Purpose
1 CBT 1 Screening/qualifying
2 CBT 2 Final merit determination
3 Document Verification Certificate check
4 Medical Examination Fitness certification

CBT 1 runs 100 questions — Maths, Reasoning, General Awareness, General Science. CBT 2 is heavier, 150 questions, with 100 of them purely technical to your discipline.

Both stages deduct a third of a mark for every wrong answer. The full section-wise weightage and timing sits on the RRB JE Exam Pattern page.

How This Year's Vacancy Stacks Up Against Past Cycles

Year CEN Vacancies Posts
2026 CEN 04/2026 4,029 JE, DMS, CMA
2025 CEN 05/2025 2,585 JE, DMS, CMA
2024 CEN 03/2024 7,951 JE and other categories
2019 CEN 02/2018 14,033 JE and other categories

No JE cycle ran at all between 2020 and 2023. Seen against that gap, 4,029 is a clear step up from 2025's low point — but still nowhere near the 2019 or 2024 numbers.

Vacancy count in this exam has never really been predictable year to year, and 2026 isn't breaking that pattern.

Once you've applied, the next question is usually preparation.

Engineers Academy runs discipline-wise RRB JE coaching for Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics & Communication, and Nimbus Learning has recorded lectures and mock tests for candidates who'd rather study on their own schedule.
