SSC JE Code for Educational Qualification

Fill the SSC JE form and you'll hit a field that doesn't want your degree name. It wants a number. 

That number is your SSC JE qualification code, and picking the wrong one is more common than people think — mostly because the list isn't as tidy as it looks.

What This Code Actually Is

• Every SSC educational qualification—Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and other listed specialisations—has a fixed code in the SSC JE system.
• You select the qualification code instead of entering the degree name manually.
• The details you provide are later matched with your certificate during document verification.
• Similar-sounding degrees can still have different codes. For example, Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering with specialisation in Production Engineering are separate entries.
• A wrong code may not mean immediate rejection, but the mismatch can be flagged during verification.

Full SSC JE Qualification Code List

Odd thing about this list — it's not grouped by branch. Civil sits at 16, then shows up again from 51 onward. Mechanical's at 18, then again from 53.

 So the code sitting right at the top isn't always yours, even if your branch matches.

SSC JE Civil Qualification Code

Plain Civil Engineering, code 16. Done. But if your certificate names something more specific — Structural, Rural, Architecture & Town Planning, Public Health, Water Resources, Construction, Environmental Pollution & Control — 

go check 51, 52, 56, 57, 59, 60 or 62 first. Don't default to 16 just because it's easier.

SSC JE Electrical Qualification Code

Straight Electrical Engineering is 17. Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering is a different code entirely — 22. 

Electrical & Electronics Engineering (49) and Electrical/Power Engineering (50) are also separate entries, even though they read almost the same on paper.

SSC JE Mechanical Qualification Code

Mechanical Engineering, code 18. Production, Power Plant, or Tool Tech specialisations get their own codes — 53, 54, 55. 

And then there's a second Mechanical block further down: 63 for Production, 64 for Maintenance, 65 for Automobile. 

Yes, it's confusing that Mechanical shows up twice with overlapping names. Read your certificate word for word before choosing.

Picking the Right One

Go by what's written on your degree certificate, not by what sounds closest. "B.E. in Civil Engineering" is 16.

 "B.E. in Civil Engineering (Construction)" is 61. Small wording difference, different code. Postgraduate engineering degrees, regardless of branch, take code 66.

Nothing Matches? Use "Others"

• Code 48 is meant for qualifications that genuinely do not appear elsewhere in the list.
• Before selecting it, check the full table carefully. Tool Tech, Rural Engineering and Quantity Surveying have their own codes.
• It is easy to miss a matching code and choose “Others” too quickly.
• SSC may update these codes between recruitment cycles, so check the current year’s notification before submitting the form, especially for uncommon specialisations.
