SSC JE List of Equivalent Qualifications
Your degree or diploma doesn't need to carry the exact name SSC uses in its eligibility clause. If it's on SSC's equivalent qualification list, it satisfies the requirement — even with a different title or specialisation.
This is separate from the general SSC JE educational qualification page. That page tells you what qualification is needed. This one tells you whether your specific degree or diploma counts as equivalent.
SSC JE Equivalent Qualification List
| S.No. | Qualification |
| 1 | AMIE (Section A&B) in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical Engg., Institution of Engineers (India) |
| 2 | Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering |
| 3 | B.E. (Electrical/Power) |
| 4 | Diploma in Civil & Structural Engineering |
| 5 | Degree/Diploma in Civil and Rural Engineering |
| 6 | B.Sc (Civil Engineering) |
| 7 | Diploma in Mechanical Engineering — Production Engineering |
| 8 | Diploma in Mechanical Engineering — Power Plant Engineering |
| 9 | Diploma in Mechanical Engineering — Tool Tech Engineering |
| 10 | Diploma in Civil Engineering — Architecture & Town Planning |
| 11 | Diploma in Civil Engineering — Public Health Engineering |
| 12 | Diploma in Civil Engineering (N.C) |
| 13 | Diploma in Civil Engineering (Water & Power Resources) |
| 14 | Diploma in Civil Engineering (Water Resources) |
| 15 | Diploma in Civil Engineering (Construction) |
| 16 | Diploma in Civil Engineering (Environmental Pollution & Control) |
| 17 | Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Production) |
| 18 | Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Maintenance) |
| 19 | Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Automobile) |
Most entries are specialisations within Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering — not separate streams.
A Civil diploma in Public Health Engineering or a Mechanical diploma in Automobile Engineering still falls under the same core discipline SSC recognises.
AMIE Equivalence — the One Exception Worth Noting
AMIE counts only when both Section A and Section B are cleared in the relevant discipline. Section A alone does not meet SSC JE's equivalence requirement.
Qualification Not on the List?
Course names differ across universities, boards and polytechnics, so the list won't cover every wording in use.
If your qualification isn't named here but overlaps substantially with Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, check the current SSC JE notification — equivalence lists can be revised between cycles.
Proof Required at Verification
Equivalence has to be established with documents, typically at the verification stage:
- Original degree/diploma certificate showing the exact qualification and specialisation
- Mark sheets confirming that specialisation
- An equivalence certificate from the university, board, or AICTE, where the certificate's wording doesn't clearly match SSC's list
- For AMIE, proof of clearing both Section A and Section B in the applicable discipline
Requirements can vary by cycle and department, so this is worth confirming against the current notification rather than assuming last year's process applies.
Here's the "Equivalent Qualification Certificate" section, written to slot in after the AMIE section and before "Qualification Not on the List":
Getting an Equivalent Qualification Certificate
If your degree or diploma title doesn't line up word-for-word with SSC's list, an equivalence certificate is what settles it.
This isn't something SSC issues — it comes from your own university, board, or AICTE, whichever body actually governs your course.
What it does, in plain terms, is state that your specific qualification is equivalent in content and level to one of the qualifications SSC recognises.
Universities issue these fairly often, since course naming has never been consistent across states, so this isn't an unusual request on your end.
A few practical points worth knowing before you need one in a hurry:
- Apply for it well before document verification — university offices can take weeks, sometimes longer during peak admission or exam seasons.
- The certificate should clearly name both your qualification and the SSC-recognised qualification it's being equated to. A vague "this course is equivalent to an engineering degree" letter without specifics usually isn't enough.
- Keep the original certificate, not just a photocopy, ready for verification — some departments ask to see it alongside your degree/diploma documents.
- If your university has issued equivalence certificates for the same course to earlier SSC JE candidates, ask them directly — they'll often already have a template ready, which speeds things up considerably.
One thing candidates sometimes get wrong: assuming a certificate from AICTE alone is always required. It isn't.
AICTE is one accepted source, but your own university or state board can issue it too — check what the current notification specifies before assuming you need to go through AICTE specifically.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Applying with a diploma specialisation not on the list, assuming automatic rejection automatic acceptance — get an equivalence certificate instead of assuming either way
- Applying with AMIE Section A only, without Section B — this surfaces as a problem at verification, which is harder to fix than sorting it out beforehand.
FAQs
Is an unlisted diploma specialisation automatically rejected?
No. It depends on how closely it matches the core discipline and whether an equivalence certificate backs it.
Does AMIE Section A alone qualify?
No — SSC requires both Section A and Section B in the relevant discipline.
When is equivalence proof needed?
Usually at document verification, though certificates should be ready well before that stage.
