UPSSSC JE Syllabus

Three branches fall under the UPSSSC JE Examination 2026 — Civil, Mechanical and Electrical — and each is assessed through its own technical paper. Before preparation can begin, candidates need two things: the subjects specific to their branch, and the marks weight assigned to each. The UPSSSC JE syllabus 2026 below sets out both, branch by branch, along with the Computer Knowledge and UP GK sections that apply to every candidate regardless of stream.

UPSSSC JE Syllabus 2026 — overview

Branch Technical subjects Technical marks Shared sections
Mechanical Engineering 8 subjects 65 Computer & IT (15), UP GK (20)
Electrical Engineering 13 subjects 65 Computer & IT (15), UP GK (20)
Civil Engineering 20+ topics Not published separately Computer & IT (15), UP GK (20)

Negative marking is the same across all three branches — 25% of a question’s marks cut for every wrong answer. That rule alone is why most candidates preparing with the UPSSSC JE syllabus topic wise approach skip an unsure question rather than guess.

UPSSSC JE syllabus for Mechanical Engineering

Eight subjects. Not weighted evenly.

Subject Marks
Theory of Machines and Machine Design 15
Engineering Mechanics 10
Strength of Materials 10
Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulic Machines 10
Thermodynamics 5
Internal Combustion (I.C.) Engine 5
Steam Engineering and Power Plant Engineering 5
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning 5

Theory of Machines and Machine Design alone holds 15 of the 65 marks — the single heaviest subject on the paper.

What actually shows up, based on recent UPSSSC JE Mechanical syllabus 2026 papers:

  • Four-bar linkages, flywheels, gear-ratio problems and governor classification under Theory of Machines
  • Bending-moment diagrams and torsion of circular shafts under Strength of Materials
  • Steam tables, the Steady Flow Energy Equation and Rankine-cycle efficiency under Thermodynamics and Power Plant Engineering

These three areas get underprepared often. They sound similar on paper but are tested very differently.

UPSSSC JE syllabus for Electrical Engineering

Thirteen subjects. Almost no weight difference between them.

Subject Marks
Basic Electrical Engineering 5
Magnetic Circuits and Electromagnetism 5
AC Fundamentals and AC Machines 5
Electrical Measurement and Measuring Instruments 5
DC Machines and Transformers 5
Alternators and Synchronous Machines 5
Electrical Generation, Transmission and Distribution 5
Estimation and Costing 5
Electrical Installation and Earthing 5
Power Systems and Economics 5
Cables, Switchgear and Protection Systems 5
Utilization of Electrical Energy 5
Basic Electronics 5

Every subject carries 5 marks. No single topic dominates the way Theory of Machines does on the Mechanical side — which means skipping any one subject here costs proportionally more.

Topics that recur in the UPSSSC JE syllabus for electrical engineering:

  • Three-phase induction motors, and how voltage or frequency changes affect motor speed, under AC Machines
  • Parallel operation of alternators under Synchronous Machines
  • Indian Electricity (IE) Rules under Installation and Earthing — often left for the last week, then rushed

UPSSSC JE syllabus for Civil Engineering

Civil runs wider than the other two branches — structural, geotechnical and transportation topics together.

A marks-wise breakup for Civil hasn’t been released through the same channel as Electrical and Mechanical. What’s below is the topic list as published, grouped for revision rather than weighted by marks.

Structural and construction Water and environmental Geotechnical and transportation
Building Materials, Solid Mechanics Fluid Mechanics, Open Channel and Pipe Flow Geo-technical and Foundation Engineering
Structural Analysis Hydraulic Machines and Hydro Power Surveying and Geology
Design of Steel Structures Hydrology and Water Resources Engineering Highways, Tunneling
Design of Concrete and Masonry Structures Water Supply and Waste Water Engineering Railways Systems
Construction Practice, Planning and Management Solid Waste Management, Air and Noise Pollution Harbors, Airports

Treat this as provisional until the Commission confirms a Civil-specific marks split.

UPSSSC JE Computer Knowledge and GK syllabus

Same for every branch — Parts 2 and 3 don’t change by stream.

Computer and Information Technology covers:

  • Hardware basics and the internet
  • MS Word and MS Excel, practical use
  • Newer additions: AI, IoT, Big Data, cybersecurity

The UPSSSC JE GK syllabus is Uttar Pradesh-specific:

  • State history, culture and geography
  • UP economy, polity and current events

Candidates studying from a generic GK book often find half of it doesn’t apply here — this section tests UP, not national GK.

Confirming the UPSSSC JE syllabus 2026

This syllabus follows what the Commission has released for Electrical and Mechanical Engineering — 65 technical marks each out of 100. The Civil Engineering topic list is carried over as published, without an official marks split yet.

Check the official UPSSSC notification before finalising a revision schedule, especially for any Civil Engineering marks update or UPSSSC JE syllabus 2026 pdf release.

FAQs

Q1. How many subjects are in the UPSSSC JE syllabus for mechanical engineering? A. Eight subjects, worth 65 marks together. Theory of Machines carries the highest individual weight at 15 marks.

Q2. Is the UPSSSC JE syllabus for electrical engineering equally weighted? A. Yes. All thirteen subjects carry 5 marks each — unlike Mechanical, where one subject dominates.

Q3. Does UPSSSC JE have a separate marks breakup for Civil Engineering? A. Not yet, through the official channel referenced here. The topic list is published; a marks-wise split for Civil hasn’t been confirmed.

Q4. What does the UPSSSC JE Computer Knowledge section cover? A. Basic hardware, internet use, MS Word and Excel, plus newer areas like AI, IoT, Big Data and cybersecurity.

Q5. Is the UPSSSC JE GK syllabus different from general GK? A. Yes. It tests Uttar Pradesh’s history, culture, geography and current events specifically, not national-level GK.
