The SSC JE apply online window, once opened, remains active for a limited period, typically a few weeks.

As the process involves several stages — One-Time Registration, submission of personal and educational details, document upload, fee payment, and final submission — candidates are advised to understand each step in advance rather than during the application period.

SSC JE Eligibility Criteria Before You Apply

Before opening the SSC JE registration page, quickly check three things: your age limit, engineering qualification and nationality condition.
Some SSC JE departments may also have additional requirements, so the criteria are not exactly the same for every post.
If anything seems unclear, verify it before applying. Finding an issue at document verification, months later, can leave you with very little scope to correct it.

SSC One-Time Registration (OTR) for SSC JE 2026

You cannot fill the SSC JE application form without OTR done first. Full stop. If you've already registered on the newer SSC portal for some earlier exam, you're fine — just log in once the window opens.

If this is your first SSC exam, though, OTR comes first, no shortcuts around it.

What it usually asks for:

Basic personal information
Aadhaar or another accepted ID
Mobile number and active email
Educational details
Your address
A recent photograph

The upside of OTR is that it's actually one-time, unlike most government processes. Do it once, and it carries over the next time you apply for any SSC exam.

You won't be typing the same details in again next year.

SSC JE Application Fee 2026

The fee structure hasn't changed much across recent SSC cycles, and quite a few categories don't pay anything at all:

Once you've paid, hang on to the receipt or transaction ID — don't just close the tab and forget about it.

And if the payment doesn't reflect immediately, resist the urge to pay again right away. Give it a bit, check the status, then decide. Sorting out a duplicate payment later is its own separate hassle.

How to Apply Online for SSC JE 2026, Step by Step

Once the SSC JE online application actually goes live:

Head to ssc.gov.in and log in using your OTR credentials. First-timer? Finish OTR — ID, contact info, photo upload — before this step.
Find the 'Apply' tab, select Junior Engineer (Civil, Mechanical & Electrical) Examination, 2026 from the list.
Fill in your details exactly as they appear on your documents — personal info, qualification, discipline, category, exam centre choice. Not how you'd write it casually, exactly as it's printed on the certificate.
Upload your photograph (JPG/JPEG, 20–50 KB) and signature (JPG/JPEG, 10–20 KB) as per the size limits.
Pay the fee — UPI, card, net banking, whichever the portal supports — assuming your category isn't exempted.
Preview the whole form before you click Final Submit. Once submitted, that's it, no going back to fix a typo.
After submission, download your confirmation page and payment receipt, note the registration number, and keep both somewhere you'll actually find them again.

SSC JE Photograph and Signature Guidelines

It sounds trivial until it isn't. A handful of things worth double-checking:

The photograph should be recent, face clearly visible, nothing covering it.
Background plain, matching what SSC asks for.
Signature in dark ink on white paper, scanned properly, not photographed on a slant.
File size and format need to match the notification exactly — not close enough, exactly.

These specs shift slightly cycle to cycle, so check the current SSC JE notification instead of assuming last year's rules carry over.
