Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination that evaluates the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering, technology, architecture, and postgraduate subjects in science. GATE is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to test the overall technical knowledge of the students.

Who Can Apply for GATE Exam 2025?

(I) Bachelor's Degree Holders: Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology (4 years after 10+2 or 3 years after B.Sc./Diploma in Engineering/Technology) are eligible to apply.

(II) Master's Degree Holders: Candidates with a Master's degree in any branch of Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent can also apply.

(III) Final Year Students: Candidates in the final year of their qualifying degree are also eligible to apply.

(IV) International Candidates: Candidates from countries other than India can also apply based on specific guidelines.

Age limits: No minimum and maximum age limit is specified.

No. of Attempts: There is no bar for the number of attempts a candidate can appear for GATE Exam.

How can we use GATE Score Card? 

GATE serves as a gateway for candidates aspiring to pursue higher education (M.Tech, M.E, Ph.D.) in renowned institutions and universities in India and abroad. It is not just a test; it's an assessment of a candidate's understanding of their field of study, analytical abilities, and problem-solving skills.

GATE scores are also used by various Public-Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruiting engineers in specific disciplines.

Also, GATE Exam is used for higher studies abroad from countries like Singapore and Germany.

GATE 2025 Exam Pattern :-  GATE 2025 exam will consist of 3 hours online computer based test with 65 objective questions.

Out of those 65 questions, first 10 questions cover questions from Quantitative aptitude, Reasoning and General English. Out of these 10 questions, 5 questions are of 1 mark and remaining 5 questions are of 2 marks each. Therefore, first 10 questions carry 15 marks.

Next 25 questions are of 1 mark each and remaining 30 questions are of 2 marks each which are from Engineering mathematics and Technical subjects.

Types of Questions: GATE 2025 includes two types of questions:

(I) Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs): These questions have four options, and candidates need to select the correct answer from the given options. For every wrong answer, one third of the marks assigned to the question will be deducted.

(II) Numerical Answer Type (NAT) Questions: In these questions, candidates need to enter the numerical value as the answer using the virtual keypad provided on the screen. There are no options; candidates need to calculate and enter the answer directly. There is no negative marking for wrong answers of NAT type questions.

(III) Multiple Select Questions (MSQs): In these types of questions, each question has four or five options out of which more than one options are correct. Candidates have to select all the correct options. There is no negative marking for wrong answers of MSQ type questions.

GATE Score Card Validity :- GATE score card is valid for three years i.e. students can get enrolled in various IITs or NITs on the basis of any of the past 3 years GATE Score card.

Also, many PSUs too recruits according to the past 3 years GATE score card. Therefore, even if students were not able to perform well in one GATE exam, they can definitely sit for another year.

GATE Marking Scheme :- The marking scheme for GATE differs based on the type of question:

(I) MCQs: Each MCQ carries either 1 or 2 marks. For each incorrect answer to a 1-mark question, 1/3 mark is deducted, and for each incorrect answer to a 2-mark question, 2/3 mark is deducted.

(II) NAT Questions: NAT questions also carry 1 or 2 marks each. There is no negative marking for NAT questions.

(III) Multiple Select Questions (MSQs): In these types of questions, each question has four or five options out of which more than one options are correct. Candidates have to select all the correct options. There is no negative marking for wrong answers of MSQ type questions.

It's important to note that unanswered questions do not have any negative marking.

GATE 2025: Application Fees :- The application fees for Female candidates, SC/ST and PwD candidates is Rs 900 and fees for all other candidates is Rs 1800/-

How to apply for GATE Exam 2025?

Online Registration :- 

(I) Visit the official GATE website 

(II) Click on the "Register Here" or "New User Registration" link.

(III) Provide your personal details, email address, and mobile number. Create a strong password for your account.

(IV) After successful registration, you will receive a unique Enrollment ID and password. Keep these credentials safe.

Filling out the Application Form :- 

(I) Log in using your Enrollment ID and password.

(II) Fill in the required information, including personal details, academic qualifications, and choice of exam paper, exam center preferences, and more.

(III) Review the information entered and makes sure it's accurate.

Uploading Documents :- 

(I) Upload scanned copies of your recent passport-sized photograph and signature, as per the specifications mentioned in the application form.

(II) Check the guidelines for photograph and signature dimensions, file size, and format.

Application Fees :- 

(I) proceed to pay the application fee after uploading documents.

(II) Payment can be made online through net banking, credit card, debit card, or other available modes.

Final Submission :- 

(I) after making the payment, review your application form once again to ensure all details are accurate.

(II) Once you're sure that all information is correct, submit the application form.

Print Application Form :- After submitting the form, you can download and print your application form for your records. It will have a unique Application Number on it.

Documents Required :- The documents required during the GATE 2025 application process include:

(I) Passport-Sized Photograph: A recent, color passport-sized photograph with a clear background.

(II) Signature: Your scanned signature, which should be done on a white paper with a black ink pen.

(III) Personal Information: Details such as name, date of birth, address, email ID, mobile number, etc.

(IV) Educational Qualification Details: Information about your qualifying degree, college/university details, and other relevant academic information.
