SSC JE is a national-level examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission of India for the recruitment of Junior Engineers in various government departments and organizations. The exam is held annually or as per the recruitment requirements.

Key points about SSC JE exam:

  1. Eligibility: Candidates should possess a minimum educational qualification of a three-year diploma or degree in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering from a recognized university or institution.
  2. Selection Process: there is three stage selection procedure.

  1. Exam Pattern: The SSC JE exam typically consists of two papers - Paper-I and Paper-II.

Paper-I: It is an objective type paper with questions on General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and Technical                subjects (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical) based on the candidate's chosen engineering discipline.

Paper-II: This paper is also objective type and tests the candidate's knowledge in their respective engineering disciplines.

4.Negative Marking: There is a negative marking of one-third marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I and Paper-II.

5.Document Verification: Candidates will have to submit copies of various documents as given below at the time of Document Verification by the User Organizations/Offices:

  1. Matriculation/Secondary Certificate.
  2.  Educational Qualification Certificate.
  3.  Experience Certificate, if applicable.
  4.  Caste/ Category Certificate, if belongs to reserved categories.
  5.  Persons with Disabilities Certificate in the required format, if applicable.
  6.  Relevant Certificate if seeking any age relaxation.
  7.  No Objection Certificate, in case already employed in Government/ Government undertakings.
  8. A candidate who claims change in name after matriculation on marriage or remarriage or divorce, etc. shall submitted the required documents
  9. Any other document specified in the Admission Certificate for DV.
  10.  It is reiterated that after scrutiny of the certificates/ documents of EQs/ caste/ category, etc., if any claim made in the application is not substantiated by certificates/ documents at the time of document verification, the candidature of candidate will be cancelled.
  1. Syllabus: The syllabus for Paper-I generally includes topics from General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and technical subjects, while Paper-II focuses on the candidate's core engineering discipline.
  2. Age limit: the age limit is 32 years for CPWD JE (Civil) and CPWD JE (Electrical) departments and 30 years for rest of the departments. However, age relaxation is given for certain categories.

  4. Application Fees: Fee payable: Rs 100/- (Rs one hundred only).

However, Women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Benchmark disabilities (PwBD) and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation are exempted from payment of fee and the fee can be paid only through online payment modes, namely BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or by using Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, or RuPay Credit or Debit card

  1. Minimum qualifying marks in Paper-I and Paper-II are as follows:
  • UR-30%
  • OBC/ EWS-25%
  • Others-20%
  • Based on the normalized marks scored in the (Paper-I) i.e. Computer Based Examination, candidates will be shortlisted, category-wise, to appear in Paper-II.
  • Final selection and allocation of Organization/Office will be made on the basis of the performance of candidates in Paper-I and Paper-II and the preference of Organization/Office exercised by them.
  1. The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all the eligibility conditions for admission to the examination. Their admission at all stages of the examination will be purely provisional, subject to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions. If, on verification, at any time before or after the written examination, it is found that they do not fulfill any of the eligibility conditions, their candidature for the examination will be cancelled.
  2. Candidates, who are appointed on the basis of this examination, shall be on probation for a period of two years and during the period of probation, the candidates would be required to undergo such training or pass such examination prescribed by the Controlling Authority.  On successful completion of the period of probation, the candidates shall, if considered fit for permanent appointment, be confirmed to their post by the Controlling Authority.
