Four weeks from now, CBT 1 for RRB JE will be under way. The exam runs on 27, 28 and 30 October 2026, and the form for it was filled long ago.
That form was submitted against CEN No. 04/2026, The RRB JE Notification released on 13 August. It invited applications for Junior Engineer (JE), Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) posts. The RRB JE vacancy count started at 3,993. It stands at 4,029 now, because Corrigendum-1 added 35 CMA posts and one JE/Electrical post.
RRB JE Applications closed on 13 September, and corrections ended on 25 September. Nothing in the application can be changed any more.
A candidate does not choose the exam day. The board allots one date, one city and one shift, and the city slip shows them about ten days before the paper. Until then, the sensible thing is to keep preparing and to leave the travel plans alone.

RRB JE 2026 Latest Update: Vacancy, Exam Date and Corrigendum
Four developments matter most at this stage.
- The RRB JE CBT 1 exam date notice was issued on 16 September 2026.
- CBT 1 will be held on 27, 28 and 30 October 2026. The schedule is described as tentative.
- Corrigendum-1, issued on 19 August, raised the vacancy count from 3,993 to 4,029.
- The exam city and date intimation link is expected about 10 days before each exam date. The e-call letter follows about 4 days before.
The correction window (16 to 25 September) has ended. The scribe details window ran from 26 to 30 September.

RRB JE Exam Date 2026 Out: CBT 1 on 27, 28 and 30 October
The RRB JE exam date 2026 is now known for the first stage. CBT 1 will run over three days: 27, 28 and 30 October. Note that 29 October is skipped.
Each candidate receives an individual date, city and shift. Nobody attends on all three days. The allotment appears through the city intimation link, so candidates should not guess from the general schedule.
The exam is tentative in the RRB’s own words. A revision is possible, though the notice has not signalled one. Checking the official site once every two or three days is a reasonable habit.

How to Check Your RRB JE Exam Date, City and Shift
The exact allotment is candidate-specific. It is issued through the RRB to which the candidate applied.
- Open the official website of the RRB chosen in the application.
- Go to the CEN 04/2026 section.
- Click the exam city and date intimation link once it is active.
- Log in with the registered credentials.
- Note the date, city and shift. Save the page or take a printout.
Only one RRB was selected in the application, so only that board’s site carries the slip. Candidates who have forgotten the choice can find it in their saved application form.
RRB JE Corrigendum-1 for CEN 04/2026: 35 CMA Posts Added
The original notice announced 3,993 vacancies for JE and DMS posts. Corrigendum-1 changed the figure.
The board added 35 Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant posts across six RRBs and one JE/Electrical/TRS post under RRB Secunderabad. That is 36 additional posts in all.

The revision touched RRB Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Guwahati, Patna, Prayagraj and Secunderabad. Every other zone-wise figure is unchanged.
CMA carries a different qualification from the JE posts. It requires a B.Sc. in Physics and Chemistry with at least 45% marks. A diploma in engineering does not qualify a candidate for CMA.
RRB JE Vacancy 2026: 4,029 Posts Across Disciplines and Zones
The 2026 cycle offers 4,029 vacancies. Civil Engineering alone accounts for 1,638, which is roughly 41 per cent of the total. Civil and Mechanical together make up about 69 per cent.
That split matters for planning. A Civil or Mechanical candidate faces a larger pool of seats, though the number of applicants in these branches is also large.

Zone choice is a strategy question. A zone with 17 seats offers little room; a zone with several hundred offers more.

RRB Junior Engineer Vacancy Trends: 2019 to 2026
The RRB JE vacancy count has never stayed still for two cycles in a row. The 2019 cycle offered 14,033 posts. Then came a gap of several years with no new cycle.

The 2026 number is higher than 2025, when 2,585 posts were notified, and lower than 2024’s 7,951. A candidate who treats the vacancy figure as a promise of anything is misreading it, since applicants far outnumber posts in every cycle.
RRB JE Eligibility 2026: Qualification, Age Limit and Medical Standards
Eligibility for RRB JE 2026 rests on four things: educational qualification, age, medical fitness and nationality. Failing any one of them can lead to disqualification, and that can happen late, at the document verification stage.

The qualification is counted as on 13 September 2026, the last date to apply. Candidates awaiting the final result of their diploma or degree on or before that date are not eligible.

RRB JE Age Limit 2026
The age limit is 18 to 33 years for unreserved and EWS candidates. Reserved categories receive relaxation on the upper limit. The birth-date windows are as follows:
- UR / EWS: born between 02 January 1994 and 01 January 2009
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): born between 02 January 1991 and 01 January 2009
- SC / ST: born between 02 January 1989 and 01 January 2009
In terms of the maximum age, that works out to 33 years for UR and EWS, 36 for OBC-NCL and 38 for SC and ST candidates. For PwBD candidates the ceilings are 43 (UR/EWS), 46 (OBC) and 48 (SC/ST).

The medical examination is the last stage, and vision is where candidates most often lose the post. The standard depends on the post applied for.

Candidates who have undergone LASIK or another refractive-error correction surgery are not eligible for JE posts that require the A-3 standard.
RRB JE Nationality Criteria
A candidate must be one of the following:
- A citizen of India, Nepal or Bhutan
- A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of settling permanently
- A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Vietnam or an East African country (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia) and intends to settle permanently in India
RRB JE Apply Online 2026: Step-by-Step Application Process
The RRB JE online application ran from 14 August to 13 September 2026 and is now closed. The steps are retained here for reference, and because candidates sometimes need to recall what they submitted.
Step 1: Create an account.
Open the RRB JE 2026 apply-online link on any official RRB site. Earlier CEN account holders can log in as before. New candidates register with a mobile number and email ID, both verified by OTP. Aadhaar or DigiLocker verification is recommended. The mobile number, email ID and chosen RRB cannot be changed later.
Step 2: Fill in the form.
Choose one RRB, then zones and posts. Details must match the 10th certificate. Pick the exam language here. CBT is held in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages.
Step 3: Take a live photo.
No passport photo is uploaded. The picture is taken on a webcam or phone camera. Face the camera, keep a neutral expression and wear dark clothes. Caps, masks and glasses are not allowed.
Step 4: Upload documents.
The signature must be in black ink on white paper (JPG/JPEG, 30 to 49 KB, 100 DPI, 140 × 60 pixels). An SC/ST certificate (PDF, up to 400 KB) is needed only to claim a free Sleeper Class pass.
Step 5: Pay the fee.
Internet banking, cards and UPI were accepted. The application is complete only after payment.
Step 6: Submit and save.
Download the final form and the payment confirmation. Keep both until selection ends.

The fee depends on the category. Part of it comes back once the candidate appears in CBT 1.

The refund is linked to attending the exam. A candidate who applies and stays away receives nothing back.
RRB JE Selection Process 2026: CBT 1, CBT 2, DV and Medical
Selection takes place in four stages. A candidate must clear each one in order.

The shortlisting ratio for CBT 2 is 15:1, which means roughly fifteen candidates are called for each vacancy. Final selection is based on CBT 2 merit. CBT 1 marks do not carry forward.
The point is worth stating plainly. A candidate who scrapes through CBT 1 starts CBT 2 on the same footing as one who topped it.

Mathematics and General Science together carry 60 of the 100 marks. A candidate strong in class 10 science and arithmetic has a structural advantage here.

CBT 2 has 150 questions and 150 marks. The duration is 120 minutes, or 160 minutes for candidates eligible for a scribe. One hundred of those questions test technical abilities in the candidate’s own discipline.

The RRB JE syllabus splits along the two stages. CBT 1 tests Mathematics, General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness and General Science. CBT 2 tests General Awareness, Physics and Chemistry, Computers, Environment and Pollution Control, and the technical subjects of the chosen discipline.

CBT 1 is qualifying in nature. The minimum percentage decides whether a candidate stays in contention for CBT 2 at all, even if the 15:1 shortlisting is applied afterwards.

RRB JE City Slip and Admit Card 2026
The exam city and date intimation link goes live about 10 days before the candidate’s exam date. The e-call letter, which is the admit card, comes about 4 days before. The dates below are expectations, not announcements.

The city slip comes first for a reason. It tells the candidate where to travel, so train and stay bookings can be made before the call letter with the exact centre appears.
Aadhaar Authentication for RRB JE Exam 2026
Aadhaar-based biometric authentication will be carried out at the exam centre. Several small errors can stop a candidate at the gate, so the following points deserve attention:
- Carry the original Aadhaar card or a printout of the e-verified Aadhaar.
- Confirm that the Aadhaar is unlocked in the UIDAI system.
- Check that the name and date of birth match the application.
- Update the photograph and biometric details where needed.
- Complete any pending Aadhaar verification through the RRB application portal.
RRB JE CBT 1 2026 Exam Day Instructions
- Reach the centre by the reporting time on the e-call letter.
- Carry the Aadhaar document required for biometric authentication.
- Check the centre address a day before, not on the morning of the exam.
- Follow the instructions of the exam staff without argument.
- Rely only on the RRB’s official notices for exam-related information.

How to Prepare for RRB JE CBT 1 2026 in the Time Left
Roughly four weeks remain before 27 October. That is enough to consolidate, and too little to start a syllabus from nothing.
CBT 1 is a qualifying stage, so the target is a safe pass rather than a topper’s score. Sixty of the 100 marks come from Mathematics and General Science. Those two subjects should get the first two weeks.
The previous year papers are the fastest calibration tool. They show which arithmetic and science topics repeat, and how much time a 100-question paper in 90 minutes really allows. The RRB JE previous year question papers are available for practice.

Mock review matters more than the mock itself. A candidate who takes six tests and reviews none learns less than one who takes three and studies every error.

The detailed RRB JE Notification 2026 (CEN No. 04/2026) was released on 13 August 2026 on the official RRB websites. A short notice had appeared earlier, in July. The PDF carries vacancies, eligibility, fee, selection process and the exam scheme.
What is the RRB JE exam date 2026 for CBT 1?
CBT 1 will be conducted on 27, 28 and 30 October 2026 under CEN 04/2026. The RRB has called the schedule tentative. Each candidate receives an individual date, city and shift through the city intimation link.
How many vacancies are available in RRB JE Recruitment 2026?
The total is 4,029 after Corrigendum-1. The original notice had 3,993. Civil Engineering has the most seats at 1,638, followed by Mechanical Engineering with 1,125 and Electrical Engineering with 600.

What is the RRB JE selection process?
Four stages: CBT 1 (screening), CBT 2 (final merit), Document Verification and Medical Examination. Candidates are shortlisted for CBT 2 in a 15:1 ratio. Final selection depends on CBT 2 merit.
Is there negative marking in the RRB JE exam?
