SSC JE Paper 2 is the technical paper. It carries 100 questions and 300 marks in two hours, all from the candidate’s engineering branch.

Two hours for 100 questions leaves 72 seconds per question. Numerical problems take longer than theory ones, so the time saved on direct questions has to fund them.

SSC JE Marking Scheme 2026

SSC JE Negative Marking

SSC JE negative marking differs by paper. Paper 1 deducts 0.25 marks per wrong answer. Paper 2 deducts 1 mark against 3 for a correct one.

The break-even points follow from that:

Paper 1: guessing pays once confidence passes about 20 percent.
Paper 2: guessing pays only above 25 percent.

Put plainly, a blind guess in Paper 2 is a poor bet. A guess after eliminating two options is a sound one.

A sound SSC JE preparation strategy starts with where the marks are. Paper 2 carries 300 marks and decides merit, so it gets the larger share of hours. Paper 1 must still be cleared, so reasoning and awareness need steady, limited practice.

SSC JE Study Plan for the Remaining Weeks

A workable SSC JE study plan divides the time in three phases. The exam is tentative, so adjust the lengths.

Early phase: revise technical subjects topic by topic, with solved MCQs after each.
Middle phase: solve previous year papers, then move to weekly full-length mocks.
Final phase: revise weak topics only. Take short timed sets. Stop starting new material.

Daily, keep one fixed hour for reasoning and awareness. Give mock analysis as much time as the mock itself.

Consider a student who spends eight minutes on one stubborn circuit problem in Paper 2. Two or three easier questions elsewhere have gone unattempted. Timed practice exposes this habit. Reading about it does not.
