IOCL confirmed its 2026 executive recruitment schedule in mid-August. Advertisement No. IOCL/CO-HR/RECTT/2026/01.
The Computer-Based Test is fixed for 24 September 2026, covering 470 posts across Graduate Engineer, Diploma Engineer, Marketing Officer, Law Officer and Assistant Quality Control Officer.
A confirmed date narrows what preparation can actually be. Before the date was fixed, candidates were working from estimates. Now there is a single figure to plan against.
Three matters require attention before 24 September:
- The exam date and admit card window.
- The vacancy split, by grade and category.
- The CBT structure, section by section.
This last point receives less attention than it should, from candidates preparing on their own as much as those enrolled with Engineers Academy’s Nimbus Learning.
IOCL Recruitment 2026: Overview
IOCL Exam Date 2026: CBT Scheduled for 24 September
Admit cards, 15 September. Exam, 24 September. Nine days between the two.
Nine days is sufficient for mock tests. Sufficient for returning to sections where marks have consistently fallen short.
Not sufficient for a subject never studied before this point — that decision needed to be made earlier, and for candidates where it was not, this week is what remains.
Past this week, correction gives way to management.
IOCL Recruitment 2026: Important Dates
Application closed on 3 September.
Of this table, two dates remain live — the admit card, and the exam. The rest stands here for reference alone.
IOCL Vacancy 2026: Grade-Wise and Category-Wise Breakup
IOCL Grade-Wise Vacancy 2026
IOCL Category-Wise Vacancy 2026
Grade A holds most of the posts.
Graduate Engineers, across Civil, Chemical, Electrical, Electronics & Communication, Mechanical, Instrumentation, Computer Science/IT. Marketing Officers and Law Officers sit in this grade as well.
Grade A0, a single post — Assistant Quality Control Officer, Chemistry.
Grade E0, Diploma Engineers in Electrical, Mechanical and Safety.
Mechanical and Electrical candidates occupy the largest portions of Grade A. A higher vacancy count draws a correspondingly larger applicant pool.
The advantage in seats narrows again once Group Discussion and interview stages are reached.
IOCL Eligibility Criteria 2026: Qualification and Age Limit
Eligibility is not uniform across posts. Each candidate should confirm the criteria attached to their own applied post, not the criteria attached to another.
Graduate Engineer (Grade A)
Full-time B.E./B.Tech or equivalent in the relevant engineering discipline, with at least 65% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates).
Diploma Engineer (Grade E0)
Full-time 3-year diploma in the relevant engineering discipline, with the same 65%/55% marks criteria.
Marketing Officer (Grade A)
2-year full-time MBA/PGDM in Marketing with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwBD).
Law Officer (Grade A)
LLB degree with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwBD), plus 2 years of post-qualification experience.
Assistant Quality Control Officer (Grade A0)
M.Sc. in Chemistry with 60% marks (55% for SC/ST/PwBD), plus 2 years of relevant experience.
IOCL Recruitment 2026 Age Limit
Age, as calculated on 1 July 2026.
- 26 years, Graduate and Diploma Engineers.
- 28, Marketing Officer.
- 30, Law Officer and AQCO.
- OBC (NCL), SC/ST and PwBD candidates receive standard government relaxation on these figures.
- Ex-servicemen, covered under existing guidelines.
A point often assumed incorrectly.
The relaxed date-of-birth cut-off is not one figure applied across every post and category — it changes by both. Verification against the official notification is required for each candidate individually.
What applies to one applicant’s cut-off will not necessarily apply to another’s.
IOCL Selection Process 2026: CBT, GD/GT and Interview
The IOCL Recruitment 2026 selection process includes:
- Computer-Based Test (CBT) — 24 September 2026.
- Group Discussion (GD) and Group Task (GT) — candidates clearing the CBT cut-off only.
- Personal Interview (PI) — final stage.
The CBT holds the largest share of the final result. Not the whole of it.
- 85% CBT
- 5% GD/GT
- 10% Interview
A detail frequently missed.
Section A and Section B each carry an independent qualifying mark. Separate from the combined score.
Strong performance in general aptitude will not offset a shortfall in domain knowledge — both sections must individually clear their threshold, the average notwithstanding.
IOCL Exam Pattern 2026: Sections, Marks and Negative Marking
Section A — General Aptitude
35 questions, 60 minutes
- Quantitative Aptitude — 20 questions
- Logical Reasoning — 15 questions
- Verbal English — 15 questions
Section B — Domain Knowledge
50 questions, 90 minutes
Technical questions, drawn from the candidate’s own discipline.
IOCL CBT Exam Pattern 2026 at a Glance
- Total — 100 questions
- Total marks — 100
- Duration — 150 minutes
- One mark per correct answer
- 0.25 deducted per wrong answer
Section B, on its own, constitutes half the paper.
This fact should govern most decisions about how remaining days are used.
A candidate capable in reasoning and English, weak in core subject fundamentals, can still fail the Section B qualifying mark. Strength in Section A does not correct for this.
Preparing for IOCL Recruitment 2026 with Nimbus Learning
A frequent error among candidates. Treating the CBT as a single syllabus, studied at one even pace throughout.
It is, functionally, two separate tests conducted in sequence. Each rewards a distinct kind of preparation, and studying both at the same pace serves neither well.
Nimbus Learning, the online platform under Engineers Academy, is structured around that division rather than a generalised PSU-preparation format.
IOCL Previous Year Question Papers and Practice Resources
- Fifty of the hundred CBT marks belong to domain knowledge.
- This figure, more than any other on this page, should determine how remaining preparation time is allocated.
- Previous year papers function less as practice and more as an indication of pattern.
- Strength of materials and fluid mechanics recur consistently for Mechanical candidates.
- Power systems and control systems, similarly, for Electrical candidates.
- The recurrence is not incidental.
- It holds across IOCL papers and comparable PSU examinations, year after year.
- Recognising the pattern allows effort to move toward topics that appear reliably, away from those that rarely do.
- Nimbus Learning includes discipline-wise previous year papers and topic-wise practice sets within its batches.
- Built around IOCL’s own question pattern specifically, not generic PSU material drawn from unrelated examinations.
